The Blair Witch is back in Lionsgate’s September 16, 2016 release of Blair Witch. The new trailer shows that this reboot of The Blair Witch franchise is a must see. The film is about a group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
For several years, Lionsgate had been searching for the right concept to reboot Blair Witch. This trailer proves the film has lots of potential.
The Blair Witch Project
The Blair Witch Project was a nearly no-budget found footage movie released in 1999 and grossed millions of dollars. The film relates the fictional story of three student filmmakers (Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard) who disappeared while hiking in the Black Hills near Burkittsville, Maryland in 1994 to film a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch. The viewers are told the three were never seen or heard from again, although their video and sound equipment (along with most of the footage they shot) was discovered a year later and that this “recovered footage” is the film the viewer is watching. Many viewer believed the footage was real and search parties was organized for the missing filmmakers.
